This Actor Will Play the New ‘Prem’ in Sooraj Barjatya’s Next Family Drama

Filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya has revealed that Ayushmann Khurrana will take on the iconic role of Prem in his next family drama, set in Mumbai. The character, made famous by Salman Khan in multiple Rajshri hits, will now be portrayed by Ayushmann in a fresh chapter for the beloved franchise.

‘Ayushmann is a committed performer’

Speaking to the news agency, Barjatya praised his new lead actor, saying, “We’re filming in Mumbai. Ayushmann is a sincere and talented actor. It’s about finding the right story, the right cast, and making the world feel real and relatable.”

The director, who has given audiences classics like Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath-Saath Hain, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, stressed that genuine emotions and realism remain at the heart of his films. He admitted that, even after decades in the industry, he still feels the same nervousness before a project as he did with his debut, Maine Pyar Kiya, in 1989.

“For me, whether it’s a film or a show, it’s important that people feel the world I’m creating is real. It should feel like their own home, not something artificial. That’s my biggest challenge. I believe in making every kind of film, but family stories are my true calling,” Barjatya added.
